Mercury Rising - An Exploration of Issues
Concerning the “Hottest” Current Pollutant

Speakers:     Dr. Jerry Lin, Lamarr University
                    Jeffrey Ryan,
USEPA National Risk Management Research Laboratory

Constance Senior, Ph.D., Reaction Engineering International

Mercury pollution has became a high profile issue of late.  Controversial regulatory approaches to mercury emission reduction have dominated the environmental news.  How serious is the problem?  What is being done about it?  Our plenary session will provide a look at the mercury problem with the focus on the technical, as opposed to the emotional.  Representatives of academia, government, and industry will discuss mercury as an environmental pollutant.  Topics to be addressed during the plenary include the following:
  • What is mercury and how is it used?
  • Where does it come from?
  • What is its fate in the environment and in receptor organisms?
  • How can we accurately monitor mercury?
  • What approaches have been developed to reduce or eliminate mercury emissions?

Following presentations from the speakers, time will be provided for panel discussion of pertinent topics.  Join us for what promises to be an interesting and informative session.
