Mercury pollution has
became a high profile issue of late. Controversial regulatory approaches to
mercury emission reduction have dominated the environmental news. How serious
is the problem? What is being done about it? Our plenary session will provide
a look at the mercury problem with the focus on the technical, as opposed to the
emotional. Representatives of academia, government, and industry will discuss
mercury as an environmental pollutant. Topics to be addressed during the
plenary include the following:
